Gerry Rainey (20) overcame a
quite horrendous opening five holes to record a most surprising win in
the penultimate Thursday Open of the season at Prehen. After those
opening five holes Gerry had recorded just five points and he certainly
wasn’t thinking of ultimate victory. But 31 points over the next 13
holes saw him register a break of tie win with 36 points. Alan Simpson
(13), winner of this weekly competition a couple of weeks ago had to
settle for second place this time, an unfortunate blank at the “Widow’s”
costing him dearly. Fred Young (8) was best of a group on 34 points to
take third place and the visitor’s prize went to Davy Glackin (13) from
Newtownstewart Golf Club.
