Raymond McLaughlin (15) scored
a steady 41 points for a tie breaking win in the popular O'Doherty
Brothers sponsored Open at Prehen on Sunday but he had an anxious wait
before his victory was confirmed thanks to a double bogey six at the
penultimate hole. The runner up Jeremy Thatcher (18) also doubled bogey
the 17th but both players were delighted to finish in the prizes after a
very quiet season. The 17th hole also took its toll on Tony McDermott as
he recorded a six there but he still managed a fine 40 points and third
place. Johnny Donnell (3) won the gross with 33 points. Trevor Moore (8)
got off to a great start with no less than two twos in the first three
holes (3rd hole on nine hole course is being used while work is being
carried out on the “crows nest”) and finished level par for the first
nine and 22 points. But he lost his way on the back nine blanking the
“Quarry” and had to settle for the front nine prize. Adrian Leckey (6)
was best on the back nine with 21 points. The ladies section went to
Christine Mitchell (25) who won out on a tiebreak from Geraldine Crossan
(11), both players scoring 36 points. Francis McLaughlin (23) finished
third with 35 points.
