The back sticks at Prehen are a tough
test of golf and invariably favour the single figure golfer. No less
than nine of the top ten finishers in Mondays Kelly Fuels sponsored Open
were in that category. Pride of place went to Fred Young (7) who had 39
points. Fred was one of the first to return his card and probably spent
the rest of the day ruing the seven he took at the last and certainly
thinking he had blown it. He need not have worried because he still had
a three shot-winning margin. The perennially evergreen Terry Coyle (5)
rolled back the years again with a fine 36 points including back to back
birdies at the 16th and 17th to take second place from Terence Dunlop
(9) on a tie break. Johnny Harding (1) had four birdies in his round of
72 to take the gross prize. John Wylie (7) from Strabane was the best
visitor on 35 points on a count back. Visitors took the two nines prizes
also with Jimmy Reid (13) Roe Park securing the front nine on 19 points
break of tie and Graham Cummings (9) from Dunfanaghy getting the second
nine on 21 point. Prize for this and the rest of Open Week will be
presented on Friday night at 10 pm. Please attend or nominate a deputy
to receive on your behalf. |
