A three way count back was needed to
decide Sunday’s Mr Long Family Grocers sponsored stableford and it is
safe to assume that the three people concerned would have thought that
their score would not have counted in the final reckoning but golf is a
funny game. A winter spent practising in the sun paid dividends for
Ciaran Burke (7), his 37 points with 16 of them on the last six holes
giving him the verdict over John Morrow (19). Sean Coyle (20) had halves
of 18 and 19 for his score and third place. Kealan Quigg (4) won the
gross with 31 points. N Oldfield from Whitehead was the best visitor on
33 points and the nines went to Alfie Kane (12), George Baldrick (15) on
18 and 22 points respectively. Best of the ladies was Betty McBride (19)
with 35 points on a count back from Esther Milligan (20). Geraldine
Crossan (14) finished third on 33 points. Kathleen Hutton was best on
the front nine with 18 points and Francis McLaughlin (24) won back nine
on 16 points. |
