Enda
Kennedy (+3) from Strabane and a former assistant to Michael Doherty at
the club was the pre tournament favourite to take home the Donnelly and
Taggart (Peugeot) sponsored City of Derry Scratch Cup at Prehen on
Sunday and he duly obliged with two excellent rounds of 73 and 71 and a
winning 144 total. Jim Carville (+2) from Warrenpoint led by one shot
going in to the second round but eventually finished runner up with 72
and 73 on a total of 145. Third place went to North West member Gareth
Mallon (scr) with rounds of 74 and 72. Speaking after the prize giving
Enda Kennedy warmly welcomed the return of the Prehen Scratch Cup to the
local fixture list saying how important it was that low handicap golfers
were given the opportunity to raise their game. He also paid particular
credit to the club’s green keeping staff for their hard work in
preparing the course so superbly for the competition and he looked
forward to defending his title next year. Other placings in the
competition were 1st nett, Kealan Quigg 145, 2, Adrian Leckey 147,
Padraig McLaughlin (North West) 148 bot, 1st 18 gross Martin McDermott
(Strabane) 75, 2nd 18 gross Johnny Harding 73.
