Local stonemason George Simms (17)
has a double reason to celebrate this week with the safe arrival of his
second granddaughter and a win in the weekly Thursday Society
competition at Prehen. A delighted George put his golfing success down
to dogged determination and his 42 points over the 17 holes was just the
icing on the cake. Mickey McCann (16) was steadiness personified in
compiling a very useful 40 points for second place. A break of tie was
needed to decide third place which eventually went to Ken McClintock
(15), his level par gross over the last five holes helping him to a 39
point total. Incidentally the three prize winners are all past skippers
of the society. Snooker News. Only one play off place remains to be decided in the round robin competition. The seven qualifiers already through are Brian Woodrow, Charlie Hillen, Jack Johstone, Tony McCann, Eugene Adams, Robbie Kennelly and Tom Hippsley. The draw for the next round will be made on Friday next 30th March.
