Iain Anthony (4) realised one of his great ambitions at Prehen on
Saturday in securing the top prize in Wilfie Donnell’s captain’s prize.
Iain’s golf matched perfectly everything about the day that was superbly
managed from start to finish including the weather, the course, the
food, the captain’s speech, the prizes and the entertainment. The winner
went round in 69 shots, two under par gross and 42 points, truly
remarkable scoring on such a big occasion. No less than four players
finished up on 41 points and each will be thinking what might have been.
Andy Meenagh (12) had the best back nine, followed by Gerry Irwin (13)
and Danny McNally (6) in that order. Ernie Heywood (1) equalled the
winner’s gross score to take the gross prize on 38 points. Category 6-12
went to Eddie Mitchell (11) on 40 points whilst John Doherty (16) the
fourth player on 41 points had to settle for the 13-17 category. Martin
Doherty (19) won the 18-28 category on 40 points and Davy Godfrey (19)
took home the veteran’s prize on 37 points. Ballyliffin’s captain Pat
Kelly (10) was the best visitor scoring 32 points. Simon Swaby (16) had
a great start to his round scoring a great 25 points to the turn but he
then ran out of steam and had to be content with the first nine prize as
consolation. Freddie Stuart (21) took the back nine prize with 22 points
on a tiebreak. |
