* Break of tie Spanish tour hopeful Phonsie O Kane (14) will have earned the not unwelcome attention of the tour’s bookies with his recent performances at Prehen in the popular Thursday Society competition. For the second time in two outings he has finished on the podium, this time in the number one spot. Playing over fifteen holes he amassed a fine 36 points including a birdie two at the "Quarry" which was particularly helpful in heading off the fast finishing Billy McKeegan (22). Billy accumulated no less than eight points over the last three holes a vital factor in his break of tie overcoming of back to form John Gallagher (12), both players returning very creditable 35 points. Spare a thought for category one golfer Terry Coyle (4) who despite going round in level par gross including back-to-back birdies at "Foyle" and "Aintree" could only manage fourth place for the second outing in succession. As one well-known local golfer once put it "Golf is a funny game but no one is laughing". |
