Maurice Quigg (19) and Helen
Jones (4) most recent winners of Prehen’s Mixed Foursome Open Matchplay
title proved emphatically that they can play on their own when winning
their respective sections in Sundays’ “Fuere de Limites Open. Maurice
really went to town in the men’s competition compiling a massive 46
points and a five point win over runner up Damian King (16). Maurice was
steadiness personified racking up 23 points on each nine and truth to
tell he won’t miss the three shots the handicapper relived him of as a
reward for his great display. His pro am playing partner also lost two
shots this week so that will keep the bookies happy at least. The third
place was taken by a rejuvenated Ciaran Burke (7) edged out from second
on a count back. Sean Quigg (1) scored 36 gross points to win that
category. Helen Jones (4) belied her handicap once again to take first ladies prize with a fine 40 points. She finished one ahead of Geraldine Crossan (12). It would be remiss of this correspondent not to comment on the fact that any golf was able to be played at Prehen on Sunday at all was absolutely remarkable given the ferocious torrential rain of the previous 24 hours. Surely a testimonial of the highest degree to the remarkable work by all the green staff at Prehen. It would be fair to say that had Prehen been closed on Sunday not one person would have been surprised. Congratulations boys. Results & Report by R. Kennelly. |
