Grieve on Top in Thursday Competition

As the sun shone for the last time in September Ron Grieve (14) proved the man to beat in the Thursday Confined Stableford week when he carded a magnificent 43 points! Ron’s start was sweet enough but not something to pen a letter to the papers about until, that is, he reached the difficult Par 5 7^th, “Dermot’s”, where he holed the first of his birdies. A 21 point front nine was steady stuff but, at this point lagging a single point behind the eventual second place finisher. Ron continued his good form over the closing holes and added birdie twos at Billy’s and The Quarry to finish on 43 points and take first prize. Ever-improving Noel McDermott (21) pencilled in a 22 point total for his front nine holes where double bogies at one and two were compensated by a lovely par at the difficult fourth hole and a four point birdie at the interesting card wrecker hole, the Par 4 6^th, “Swilken”.  A steady back nine followed but Noel will have nightmares about his poor double-bogey on the last hole when a par would have been enough for victory. As it was he had to be content with second place.
