Colm Duffy of the sponsors congratulating Odhran Mcgettigan of
the winning amateur team
In the
McCambridge Duffy
sponsored Pro-Am played at
City of Derry
over the weekend Simon Thornton dominated the
professionals strokeplay element with a magnificent eleven under
par winning performance. Bad weather on Sunday meant play on
that day had to be abandoned and the competition was decided
over the the first two days play. Thornton led the field from
the start with a well compiled four under par on day one. He
followed that with an incredible record breaking 64 on day two.
Big hitting Damian Mooney, winner back in 2004
finished second this time on four under and he was followed by
Barry Trainor on minus two. Barry holed his second shot
at the long 17th on Saturday for a remarkable eagle. Best of the
amateurs was the team led by professional Darren
McWilliams with Conor McGettigan (13), David
McLaughlin (17) and Odhran McGettigan
(23). They had rounds of 93 and 91 over the two days. Simon
Thornton's team of Paul Wallace (5), Ciaran O Neill (8)
and Brian Doherty (12) took the second team place with
182, the epitome of consistency with two rounds of 91 points.
