Maxwell Top Qualifier at City of Derry.

Players trying to qualify for the prestigious singles match play at City of Derry Golf Club faced a very stiff test on Saturday. A strong wind whipped across the course for most of the day and days of fabulous sunshine had crisped the fairways to links’ consistency! The player with the game best suited to the conditions was Edward Maxwell(14) who carded a nett 67 to take first place. The player of the month, Stephen Monaghan (12), again proved that he is an emerging force with a fine 68 nett to take second spot. Prehen’s hard-working Honorary Secretary, Mr Tony McCann (13), proved that he has spend some time concentrating on his golf game despite the duties of his office when he carded a superb nett 69 to take third place. The ever consistent Ernie Heyward (1) again took the Best Gross of the day with a fabulous 75.

The draw for the match play stages of the competition is on display in the clubhouse and members are advised that the timeline for matches is tight and the Match Referee, Mr Maurice Quigg, will be accepting no excuses for failure to adhere to the dates. But the Competition is bound to be furious given that these guys have all qualified:-

Mr  E  Maxwell   (Edward), Mr  S  Monaghan   (Stephen), Mr  T  Mccann   (Tony), Mr  R E  Kennelly   (Robbie), Mr  A L  Philson   (A), Mr  R  Phelan   (Raymond), Mr  S P  Kelly   (Shane Patrick), Mr  M  Lynch   (Michael), Mr  R  Porter   (Richard), Mr  P  O'Donnell   (Paul), Mr  E  Heywood   (Ernie), Mr  R L  Leake   (Ronan), Mr  T  Mcdermott   (Tony), Mr  W D  Henderson   (Billy), Mr  J  Crumlish   (John), Mr  M G  Lynch   (Michael).

Sadly the cruellest fate of a decent card befell that of Mr Michael  Gillen when he failed to add the necessary signature and he was disqualified. Michael will rue a missed opportunity!
