The Sunday Society continues
to just grow and grow! More than eighty players contested
the seventh outing on Sunday and the days’ result will be
warmly welcomed. Over worked and underpaid Honorary
Secretary Tony McCann (10) reaped the rewards of his
recent warm weather training in sub-tropical Barcelona when
he shot 33 points to take top spot. Tony’s game was a model
of consistency as he restricted himself to a mere three
bogeys as he frequently turned possible bogey to outrageous
par through superb putting! Second spot went to the
long-hitting Brian Stanford (14) who turned up the
temperature on the back nine to edge out those on the same
score. Third place was taken by John Hancock (11) on
32 on a break of tie from Past Captain Andy Meenagh
(9) who carded the same score to take fourth spot. Andy
carded the best gross of the day for the second week running
and has to be aware that the handicap committee are keeping
a watchful eye on his meteoric rise up the Sunday Society
Golfer of the Year Rankings!! Prehen’s number one golfer,
Wilfred Abel (17), took fifth spot as his 32 points
narrowly lost out on a back nine break of tie with the Past
Captain. Paul Gillespie (10) finished in sixth place
with 31 points. Despite not finishing in the prizes this
week John McClafferty amassed enough Golfer of the Year
points to return to the top of the leaderboard after seven
outings but he is being hotly chased by a host of hardy
competitors. The full listing can be studied in the
clubhouse.
