It was another superb
day at City of Derry Golf Club for the Thursday Open. By the end of
the day David Hughes(23 found that he was the well deserved winner
with 41 points. Steady on the front with a fine 20 points he kept it
together over the closing holes to add a further 21 points. Apart
from first place David will like his new 21 handicap! The evergreen
John Morrow(18) has seen his handicap tumble over recent months – a
circumstance he puts down to good living and constant practice.
Whatever the cause he is certainly enjoying the golf of his life and
his 40 point tally was enough to lift second place. Richard Porter(
17) will rue the small mistakes on the front nine holes that
eventually relegated him to third place on the day but he will be
pleased to kiss goodbye to his old 17 handicap and don the mantle of
a 16 handicapper. His playing partners will be pleased! Aaron
Taylor(2) lifted yet another Gross Prize with 35 points and
Greencastle’s Tommy McBride(6) showed that his years of playing
Prehen have instilled enough knowledge into him that he can now
easily lift a Visitors’ Prize with a neatly compiled 38 points.
