Prehen was a busy spot on Sunday with the Annual Mixed Foursomes Competition Qualifying taking up a substantial space on the time sheet but that still left space for the Prehen Cup to occupy those not lucky enough to find a partner for mixed golf! The Prehen Cup test was stroke play over the Prehen Course with the yellow sticks set so far back they made high handicappers blanche! But Alfie Kane(10) found the layout to his likening and carded a fine 75 (nett 65) to lift the top prize. Alfie needed all his skill and a back nine break of tie to keep Prehen’s own golfing Rottweiler, Eamon McCourt(7), at bay. Eamon’s best gross of 72 was enough for him to take second spot, the adulation of an expectant bar and, with a single gulp, a cut in his handicap to a new low of 6! Jimmy Mohan (13) found that his 66 nett was enough to lift third spot and club handicapper convenor, Martin Doherty(20), had the great pleasure of performing delicate surgery on his own handicap when his nett 67 was enough to cut him by a single shot!

 

Members are reminded that Saturday sees the running of the Vice-Captain’s Prize (Mr Jack McFarland). All members are invited to play and there will be some special prizes for council and club committee members to attempt to win. Times as usual can be booked online. An Open Stableford will run on Sunday alongside the conclusion of the Mixed Foursomes, the final of which tees off around 2pm.
