Mr Alan Montgomery’s
President’s Prize.
There was a big turnout
played in beautiful conditions for Mr Alan Montgomery’s
Presidents’ Prize at City of Derry Golf Club on Saturday. At
the end of the day Hugh Devine(7) had amassed 40 points and
lifted the superb first prize. He was closely followed home
by Darren Kirk(11) with 39 points whose back three beat Jack
Houlahan(15) into third place who in turn needed a better
back nine to push Robert McKimm(18) into fourth spot. Jayson
McIntyre(1) has a steady 38 to take the Best Gross, Billy
Henderson(10) struck it lucky in the Cat 7-12 section with
38 points, John Quigley(16) took Cat 13-17 with 39 points
and Ken McClintock(18) lifted the Cat 18-28 section with 38
points. Richard Porter’s 23 points was good enough for the
front nine prizes and his score was matched by John Currie
over the closing holes to lift the back nine prize. The best
veteran on the day was the indefatigable Robbie Kennelly whose
37 points showed some of the youngsters the way golf can be
played.
The President prize to
the Ladies was won by Brenda Chauchan, second was Veronice
Burke and third spot was taken by Leslie Mulgrew.
In his winner’s speech Mr
Hugh Devine praised the fantastic condition of the course,
the unending patience of his playing partners and the
generosity of Mr President Alan Montgomery in providing such
a wonderful array of prizes. He also wished the President
continued success throughout the rest of his term of office.
