The 2009-10 Sunday Society season got off to a flying start on Sunday with splendid weather, a fair wind and a large field. At the helm this year is Mr Eamon McCourt who is sure to keep the hard working committee of Terry Phillips, Jack Johnstone and the ever present Barney McDaid laughing through the many meetings over the winter months. But, sadly, for the new Captain the launch day did not go to plan and his dismal 45th place finish can only be accounted for by the pressures of high office given his recent spectacular form over the Prehen Course. At the head of the field after the dust settled on the hard fought competition was a very well crafted 43 points tally from James McCann(12). Brian Mulgrew(20) grabbed second spot to demonstrate that his recent good form is set to continue over the winter months. In third place came Paul Monaghan(18) with a credible 39 points. It took a break of tie over the back 6 holes to separate the 38 points total of Robert Glackin(12) and Emmet Boyle(20) into 4th and 5th spot respectively. Propping up the prize-winners on this occasion was James Mohan’s 37 points off a handicap of 13. This competition has a long way to run and Captain McCourt invites all members to join the Society’s weekly competition.
