Dermot (Tiger) Hegarty (22) emulated his namesake’s achievement at the
weekend by taking first place in the weekly Sunday society competition
at Prehen. Unlike his idol however he didn’t have to sweat over the
final putt because his 41 points left him a generous three shots clear
of the chasing pack. Paul Glackin (9) sent a clear message to team
selectors that he is back to top form his 38 points taking second place
albeit on a tiebreak. Newly joined member John Kerrigan (20) entered the
prize list for the first time to take the third place on offer, edging
out Jim McCann (14) into the fourth spot, Two more senior members of the
society were fifth and sixth, Bertie Long (20) getting the verdict over
Wilf Abel (21) both players shooting 37 points. Wilf is going great guns
at the moment, that was his third prize in successive competitions.
