With only two weeks remaining of the current season the organisers
changed the format for this week by running a team competition. Having
to cope with four seasons in the one day was no bother to the winning
team of Damian King (15), Davy Jones (17), Ken Quigley (16) and the
maestro himself Vinny O Callaghan (21). 41 points was all they could
manage on the front nine but after a pep talk on the tenth tee by
Captain Vinny they really went to town scoring a resounding 50 points on
the home stretch for a facile victory. They will have an anxious wait
for the handicapper’s verdict on their performance. A three man team
remarkably enough managed to take the second place and all credit to
them they managed very well despite the absence of the main man. Clive
Brolly (14), Brendan Sands (17) and Sammy Connor scored 86 points and if
Mr Stuart had managed to make the first tee who knows what they would
have managed. Spare a thought for Eddie Mitchell and Alan Montgomery who
had to play as a two-man team and didn’t finish last. Incredible as it
may seem both men are only just over major surgery and are to be
congratulated for their wonderful spirit.
