Fred Young (7) was best of the day in the prestigious Joe Ramsey trophy
donated by the late Joe’s family in memory of a man who was synonymous
for many years with the success of the Society. Fred went round the
tight Prehen layout in 73 shots for 41 stableford points, and still only
won on a tie break from George Simms (17), who incidentally is the son
in law of another stalwart official of the society the late great Cahir
Fitzpatrick. Basil Kyle (17) scored 40 points to take third place, a
tiebreak needed for that place also. Last week’s winner John Woods (10)
had to be content this week with the first nine prize, his 21 points
being good enough courtesy of another tie break. And the second nine was
also decided on a tie break with Jack Logue (14) getting the verdict
over category one golfer Terry Coyle, both players returning 22 points.
Terry had no less than five birdies in his round with four of them
coming on the home stretch.
