A huge entry played on Saturday in the Castlerock/City
of Derry annual Peter Hill Memorial Salver and fifteen-year-old Sean
Morrison (4) demonstrated just what a golfing talent he has with an
outstanding performance. His best of the day 68 gross earned him 43
points and the overall best nett. Sean has been selected for special
coaching by the GUI and is certainly going to go far. A triple tiebreak
on 41 points decided the next three places, Michael McCullough’s (16)
superior back nine giving him the edge over George Jackson (12) and John
McIvor (12). Kealan Quigg (6) finished fourth in the section for Prehen
members with 40 points again on a tiebreak. The Castlerock first three
were Alistair King (8) on 39 points, Keith Robinson (12) on 37 points
and Brian Lowry (4) on 36 points. Best nines were won by Gerry Cleary
(18) on 21 points and Pat McAllister (23) whose 23 points matched his
handicap. The actual Peter Hill salver played for by the officials of
the two clubs and guests of the Hill family was retained by the host
club.
