The biggest hitter by a country mile at Prehen Gary Leckey (8) proved that he has also a short game to die for. Playing in last Sunday’s open sponsored by Campsie based Donnelly and Taggart (Peugeot) Gary scored a steady 39 points including no less than four successive birdies from the 4th to the 7th. Modesty personified, he put his success down to his exquisite touch around the greens. Ernie Heywood (1) was round in 70 shots to take second place on 38 points, a tiebreak separating him from third placed Les Renshaw (11). Jim O Hagan (20) lost yet another shot in his inexorable quest for perfection recording 37 points to take fourth place on a tiebreak. Best of the ladies was ladies branch handicap secretary Frances McLaughlin (who headed a trio on 36 points. Second place went to Liz Allen (25) and Ciara Quigg (18) finished third. |
