No less
than four men scored 42 points in the Samaritan’s Open at Prehen on
Thursday with Tommy O Neill (14) getting the verdict, his better last
three holes being the deciding factor over second placed Raymond
McNutt (20). Sean Quigg (1) also scored 42 points, a marvellous
display of golf with a 66 gross and third place over his family
namesake Kealan Quigg (4). Kealan started the season off eleven and
could possibly be down to scratch before season’s end with some more
hard work. Foyle member S D Doherty (15) took the visitor’s prize on a
steady 39 points. Colum Murphy (10) was best of the day on the front
nine scoring an excellent 22 points, his total was matched on the back
nine by Raymond McLaughlin (15) one of Prehen’s best ball strikers
whose handicap will surely come tumbling down when he manages to put
two nines together on the one day.
Best of the ladies was their handicap secretary Frances Mclaughlin
(25) who is enjoying a good run of form lately, a fine 38 points
giving her a one point win over Lou Peoples (19). Anne Wallace (13)
took third place from Lady captain’s prize winner Marie Clifford on a
tiebreak both girls returning 36 points. Sinead McGee (12) and Anne
McGoldrick (28) were best on the nines with 20 and 19 points
respectively
