A” walk in the park” was how
Malachy Jackson (18) described his stunning victory in The City of
Derry Building Society Open at Prehen on Thursday. Having scored a fabulous
78 gross, his nett 60 earned him the huge total of 47 points and a
clear four shot-winning margin. He had a seven at “Prehen” and they
were the only shots he dropped on the back nine to give him 25 points
on that stretch. Spare a thought for Ruadhri McGee (1) recent winner
of the Ulster Boy’s title who equalled the Prehen course record with
an absolutely superb 65 strokes, three under on both nines and his 43
points could only get him the runner up spot. The last man to enter
the competition Rob Jefferson (12) finished in third place with 41
points and John Spence (5) visiting from North West Golf Club took the
fourth spot with 40 points. The nines (first) went to Neil King (18)
on 21 points and Trevor Doherty (12) had 23 points to take the second
nine.
