Three sixes on the front nine and a
modest 16 points were all Paul Monaghan
(14) had to show standing on the tenth tee at Prehen on Thursday
in the weekly Open. Fast-forward to the eighteenth green and 42
points have been scored thanks to an incredible back nine of 26
points. One under gross and no doubt the handicapper will be
paying special attention to his score. Paul did win but only on a
tie break from hard working greens convenor Lester Moore (2) who
went round the tight Prehen layout in 67 shots including a record
breaking 30 on the back nine. His 30 shots comprised an eagle,
three birdies and five pars. Tom McGowan (10) took the third spot
with 40 points and the extra nett prize went to a back in form
Stephen Pulis (13) on a tie breaking 39 points. Former stalwart at
Prehen and now playing out of Greencastle Hugh Doherty (9) was the
best visitor on 38 points
