All five prize-winners in Prehen’s Thursday Society’s Jim Bresland trophy were early birds and were well back in the clubhouse before the weather broke and ruined the hopes of the late starters. Pride of place went to Davy Godfrey (20) who just can’t stop the winning habit. Assured of the societies golfer of the year title with an already unassailable lead he was a model of consistency as he went round the 17-hole layout for a 37-point winning total. Hot on his heels was his playing partner the redoubtable Rodney Smyth (17) who also had 37points but lost out on the count back, a double bogey six at the penultimate hole ruining his chances of outright victory. Aubrey Taylor (7) finished in third place on 35 points also on a tiebreak. Prehen’s Webmaster Malachy Jackson (15) took the front eight-hole prize with a fine 18 points albeit on a tie break and the back nine went to Society Skipper Eddie Mitchell (10) with 19 points. Eddie’s Society Skipper’s day takes place this year on the 19th of April.

Society members are reminded that next week’s competition will be for the Harry Bryson Trophy.
