The Ulster finals of the Fred Daly Trophy were played at Lisburn Golf Club between City of Derry, Donaghadee, Moyola and Mourne.

In the morning semi-final City of Derry had a fairly easy win over Donaghadee. In most of the matches City of Derry were winning early on and maintained the lead for a comfortable 5-2 victory.

A tight and pulsating Ulster final saw City of Derry take on a very strong Moyola side lead by current Irish Internationals Luke Lennox and Chris Selfridge.

In the top two matches City of Derry's Sean Morrison and Kealan Quigg suffered two heavy defeats by the inform Irish Internationals 6/5 and 5/4. The Moyola duo had 10 birdies between them.

 After nine holes City of Derry were up in 2 matches, down in 3 matches and all square in 2 matches. Paul Starret and Paul McGuigan levelled the overall match at 2-2 with victories by 4-3 and 5-4. In the remaining three matches City of Derry were down in one, up in one and all square in the third. With a Ulster Title at stake the 'young guns' from City of Derry raised their game. Firstly with Paul Doherty who  played supreme golf to come from 2 down to win 3-2. That left the overall score in favour of City of Derry, leading 3-2 with two matches still on the course.

Stevie Martin had been pegged back to all square and the anchorman Mathew Doak was 2 up playing the 14th hole. Mathew won the par 5 14th with a par which left him 3 up with 4 to play. Stevie Martin was all square playing the 17th. Matthew then won the 15th with a solid display of golf to bring the Fred Daly Ulster Championship back to City of Derry for the first time since 1995.

The boys now play in the All Ireland Finals at Massereene Golf Club (beside Antrim forum) on Mon 25th Aug. where they take on the Leinster champions Rosslare G.C. so come along and support our Ulster Champions. Tee-off 9.10.
