For the first time in their history City Of Derry won an All Ireland senior pennant playing in the final of the Irish Mixed Foursomes at Athlone Golf Club on Friday last. Captained by their ladies branch club captain Naoimh Quigg they did the club proud in bringing home this most sought after title in Irish Mixed foursomes golf. A sterling effort by all concerned.

The Final Report
City of Derry beat Connacht Champions Curra West by 3 matches to 2 to win the Irish Mixed Foursomes Challenge Cup at Athlone Golf Club.
Sean Quigg and Liz Allen put the first point on the board for the Ulster Club with a 5/4 win over Colin Donohue and Mary Kelly. Curra West replied almost instantly when Leo Kelly and Ann Fahy scored a 4/3 win against Kevin Quigg and Gerda Laird in the top match.
The other three matches were evenly poised mid-way through the back nine and all three were eventually decided on the final hole.
Peter Villa and Catherine McCanney edged City of Derry in front again with a 1 hole win against Pakie Ryan and Martina McDonagh before Curra West levelled things with a 2 holes win for Kevin Cooney and Mary McDonagh over Ernie Heywood and Rosie Short.
All eyes were on the last and deciding match in which the City of Derry pair of Cormac McKeone and Ciara Quigg lay 2 up through sixteen against Frank Donohue and Carmel Cunningham. The latter pair won the 17th hole to bring the match down the par four 18th on which they received one shot.
Both Carmel Cunningham and Ciara Quigg played perfect tee shots down the left hand side of the fairway and Curra West's Frank Donohue played a fine approach which settled in front of the green. City of Derry’s Cormac McKeone hooked his approach shot left towards trouble but a fortuitous deflection off a large tree saw the ball end up in the right hand greenside bunker.Carmel Cunningham was unlucky to see her chip shot taking a severe break on a swale in the green to end up in the same greenside bunker which handed the advantage to City of Derry. A marvellous 20 yard bunker shot from Ciara Quigg, to just six feet, left the Ulster Champions with two putts for the title and they duly obliged.
