98th
Annual General Meeting
A well-attended 98th Annual General Meeting of the City of
Derry Golf Club took place on 28th January 2010 and Officers and
Council positions were filled for the forthcoming year. Appointments
for all positions on and off Council were confirmed last week at the
new Council’s first meeting.
Financial Stability and Membership
Growth
In the reports to the AGM by the outgoing Captain, Honorary Secretary
and Honorary Treasurer, it was very evident that this great club’s
fortunes have improved greatly over the preceding 12-18 months. The
financial position has been greatly stabilised and more importantly
the 3-year Centenary Membership deal launched last September attracted
111 new Full Members. In addition and for the first time in the
history of the Club, a number of the Lady Associate Members have opted
to move across and become Full Members. Two of the ladies who migrated
to Full status were elected onto Council as well.
The new Captain, Brian Abel, outlined his Council’s objectives for the
forthcoming year, focusing in the main on a further consolidation of
the financial position and the further strengthening of the membership
situation. Particular attention will be given to attracting more
Juvenile and lady members. He also intimated that, amongst many other
things that required to be done, was the commencement of detailed
preparations for the Club’s much heralded Centenary Celebrations in
2012 and led by Past Captain Ciaran Burke.
The following members and
responsibilities constitute the new Council:
